Most of us know of coups.  Plastered all over the evening news are African countries threatened by machete wielding tribes; children armed with AK-47’s, and warlords donning  tailored digs, sporting sunglasses from the early 70’s. In my opinion it’s all great entertainment, watching the third world descend into an abyss of demagoguery. The humor is lost, though, when it approaches our own shores.

It looks as if we’re undergoing our own coup; led by someone who can charm the pants off a badger, if badgers had pants. A man of great oratory skills, a man who inflames the hope of an entire nation…of idjits. Mr. Barack Hussein Obama promised the American public an atmosphere of “transparency” in government; some bought it, some took everything he said with a boatload of salt.

I’m actually seeing transparency.  He exhibited a great deal of socialistic ideas in his platform and I’m afraid the proverbial chickens are, indeed, coming home to roost. He certainly isn’t hiding it now, is he? What the hell am I talking about, you ask?  Well, let’s look a little more closely at some of the “hope”.

First, Mr. Obama promised the American public that we’d have the opportunity to view the porkulus package prior to its passage; he’d place it on the Internet so that all of us, as Americans, could actually see what all these greats plans had in store for us, how those plans could help us out of the current financial mess. Did it happen?

Uhh, no.

I wonder why.  Why wouldn’t one of the promises of the great politician from Illinois be kept? Was he afraid that we wouldn’t understand it?  He knew or knows better than we do? Obviously Mr. Obama’s choices in cabinet members have been, what’s the word … oh, I believe what I’m looking for is “fucked up”. If that hasn’t been apparent to some Americans, then they’ve been sucked up into this vortex of Messiahism that seems to be prevalent in some corners of our nation. It all reminds me of the 1930’s in Germany – whatever Adolph wants, Adolph gets.

Ok, maybe I’m nitpicking and if that’s the case, I’m terribly sorry.

But, what about the whole “Census thing”? Mr. Barack Hussein Obama wishes to politicize the whole counting of people, which in the history of census taking has always been outside the influence of politicians. Apparently Mr. Obama thinks that’s been a mistake. Why, you ask, would Mr. Obama do such a thing? Well, for votes. He’s attempting to kill the Republican party and one tool he can use is to bring the census into the control of the White House. Someone else destroyed political parties that ran afoul of his needs and wants; do you remember his name? Are we about to witness another “Night of the Long Knives”… or maybe another Kristallnacht? A systematic destruction of the opposition, a removal of anyone that might challenge Mr. Obama’s rule?

I don’t know.

Oh wait, what about this whole Fairness Doctrine?  I’m sorry, I meant the Censorship Doctrine. This was shot down way back in the 1980s and is now making a comeback with the assistance of one of Mr. Obama’s Democratic cronies. A senator from the troubled state of Michigan, Debbie Stabenow – whose husband just happens to be one of the originators and architects of left-wing radio – wishes to see the “Censorship Doctrine” brought back. She wants state control over what you hear over the radio. She wants to do away with listener-driven radio, which has always been the case in this First Amendment country, mind you. Senator Stabenow wants it controlled by the government. She wants those responsible for this country’s radio to insure that its listeners have a choice. Well, they already do, but its become quite apparent that most people who happen to listen to pundits on the radio listen to those in the conservative genre. The liberal radio hosts don’t seem to draw many listeners, so stations often don’t feature them.

Radio is a business, folks.  It makes money; money that allows those stations to broadcast. It’s not big money, mind you; the money comes from sponsors and the listeners. If those stations don’t have sponsorship for their programming, or if they don’t have listeners for their programming, they don’t broadcast. Simple, isn’t it? Well, now those in control want to force those stations to broadcast stuff that no one will listen to. Funny, that reminds me of someone else who took over the airwaves, placing them in control of the government. Actually, I bet you can name a number of countries that have taken control of what’s pumped into their listeners ears. History is littered with governments that have taken over the wheel, so to speak. The operative word here is “history”. It didn’t work, of course, and sometimes resulted in some pretty horrific stuff.

Sometimes coups aren’t laced with bullets ripping through the air, or machete-wielding zipperheads wearing pajamas. Sometimes, coups are silent and unobtrusive. They sneak their way into societies like a snake, slithering their way into our lives, quietly but steadily devouring the very building blocks of a democratic society.
